Overview

Witness one of nature’s most extraordinary celestial events from the dramatic, ethereal landscapes of Iceland. On August 12, 2026, a total solar eclipse will cross the skies above this land of fire and ice—an experience that is as rare as it is unforgettable.

Iceland’s unique geography, low light pollution, and otherworldly terrain create a breathtaking backdrop for this once-in-a-generation moment. This fully guided, small-group journey is crafted for discerning travelers who value comfort, substance, and cultural immersion alongside the eclipse spectacle itself. Limited to a maximum of 18 guests, the itinerary blends world-class sights, curated experiences, and the celestial event in a way that is both thoughtful and seamless.

Over six days, you’ll explore the iconic highlights of Iceland’s Golden Circle, northern fjords, and coastal peninsulas—journeying through glacier-carved valleys, geothermal hot springs, cascading waterfalls, and dramatic volcanic coastlines. Each day is thoughtfully paced to reveal the rugged beauty of the island while offering deep cultural insight, local gastronomy, and opportunities to relax in world-famous mineral baths.

We will head straight out from the Airport to the Golden Circle where we will see some of Iceland´s well known sites including Gullfoss water fall and Geysir.

Lunch will be served at a local Tomato Farm that uses Geothermal heat and energy to grow tomatoes and other vegetables. After the “Golden Circle Tour “ we will head back to Reykjavik where you will check into your hotel for a little rest. At 18:00 we will head out of the hotel for a walking tour of Reykjavik (about 2 hours) and free time after. You can pair up and go off for dinner to one of many recommended restaurants by your guide.

Today after breakfast we will depart Reykjavik for the spectacular North! We will stop and see one waterfall on the way and then stop at one of Iceland´s oldest bakeries in Sauðarkrókur (Saudarkrokur) for a light lunch. Sauðarkrókur has a very small downtown area with interesting shops to walk around.

After lunch we will go to a special geothermal swimming pool in a gorgeous location, not well known by many. After our swim we will continue around the Troll peninsula on the Arctic Coast Way, which offers spectacular views of the cliffs and coast. We will check into Hjalteyri Hotel where we will have the next two nights. Hjalteyri Hotel is a Lux hotel nestled on top of a hill overlooking Hjalteyri and Eyja Fjord, which is Icelands longest fjord and close to Iceland´s second largest city, Akureyri.

We will have a special dinner tonight in the local restaurant which specializes in Icelandic Specialties and Cuisine. The evening can spent enjoying the sauna and hot tub at the hotel, or the hot tub in the village right on the water in the fjord.

MEALS: Breakfast, Dinner
ACCOMMODATION: Apart Hotel Hjalteyri

After breakfast we will head up the fjord to the next village, Hauganes. Here we have a whale watching tour at 10:00 am. When we return from the tour we will have a little fish factory tour, and a taste of Brennivin (Black Death) and Hákarl (fermented Shark). Fish and chips or homemade mushroom soup are our offerings at the local Village Baccalao Restaurant. From here we will head into Akureyri for a city walk and 2 hours of free time. We will continue to Laufás, which is a working museum. Laufás is Iceland´s best example of turf houses, and how families lived only 100-120 years ago in Iceland.

Mývatn is our next stop. Mývatn Lake is a well known vacation spot for Icelander´s and has been for many years. We will see here, geological and geothermal wonders, including a volcano, boiling mud and fumerols, hot rivers and other hot water. A visit to Mývatn would not be complete without a swim in Mývatn Nature baths, which is one of Iceland´s best known geothermal pools. It is a wonderful experience to bath in geothermal pools. This pool is just as beautiful if not nicer than the Blue Lagoon, and much less commercial. We will have dinner on a farm, Vogafjos, which is well known for it´s great restaurant which uses local products and serves great Icelandic Cuisine, with windows that look into the working dairy barn. After dinner we will head back to Akureyri, stopping on the way to one of Iceland´s best known waterfalls, Góðafoss.

Back in Akureyri we will stop in the center so you can get a drink or take a walk and experience a little evening or night life. At the hotel we will have a little time for an informative evening and information on tomorrow´s eclipse.

At 16:00 we will set out to Helgafell. Helgafell (Helga´s mountain) is a well known hill in Icelandic sagas. Legend has it that if you follow the directions of climbing the mountain, when you get to the top you make a wish. We can try this on the way up, but the top of Helgafell is where we will be watching the eclipse, which starts at 16:45. At 17:46 is the time in this location where we will experience a Total Eclipse, the event is over at 18:45. When we will head back into the village for a fish dinner.

After breakfast we will take the road that goes all the way around the peninsula. Snæfellesness is a peninsula where you can almost see all the regions and geological features of Iceland in one compact area. We will see the fishing towns and ports of the north part of the peninsula, heading around the end, where there are miles and miles of lava fields formed during one of the long long ago volcanic eruptions that Iceland is so famous for. The lava fields are located right below the Glacier with the same name as the peninsula, Snæfell (or snow mountain).

The south coast of the peninsula has beautiful cliffs, lava fields, and very varied bird life. It is here that you are likely to spot puffins, if we hadn’t already on the north coast. Along the way back to Reykjavik we will stop in Borgarnes, home of the Icelandic “Settlement Center”. Back in Reykjavik we will start with Perlan Museum, one of the best museums in the country that have amazing exhibits on Ice, Water, and Northern Lights. From the museum you can go down to the city by bus, or for more adventurous types, you might choose to take the Zip line down.
